Mental stability through talk therapy

Welcome to today’s LIGHT UP DEPRESSION episode where we discuss about the mental health of every individual in our immediate environment.

As we all know that as terrible as the economy might be, we Nigerians always find ways of being and staying happy but surprisingly, as happy and friendly as we can be, more than 1.5 million cases of depression is reported per year in Nigeria. This alarming statistic has made us put this piece for you.

#Depression is a mental health disorder that is characterised by constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest in activities that eventually causes biological, physical, psychological, spiritual, financial and social damage in ones daily life.

The physical and behavioral symptoms include:

* Changes in sleeping pattern * Loss of appetite

* Low energy level

* Imbalance concentration

* Negative daily behaviour

* Low self-esteem

* Suicidal thoughts

There are different approach to helping a #depressed individual. They are:

1. Medical intervention

2. Therapeutic intervention.

However, we at #IMEYREACH Foundation adopt the therapeutic mode of treatment (talk therapy) as a first-aid treatment through the help of our seasoned ambassadors. We use our strategy backed with empathy and compassion to help the depressed to be connected to the light and be alive.

However, we urge everyone reading this piece of writing to please check up on your loved ones physically and electronically, remind them how much you love them, take them out if need be, show them how beautiful life can be, assure them you’ll be by their sides through thick and thin.

This mode of treatment according to research says it might help normalise brain changes associated with depression.
